چکیده

It has been shown that sensory morphology and sensory–motor coordination enhance the capabilities of sensing in robotic systems. The tasks of categorization and category learning, for example, can be significantly simplified by exploiting the morphological constraints, sensory–motor couplings and the interaction with the environment. This paper argues that, in the context of sensory–motor control, it is essential to consider body dynamics derived from morphological properties and the interaction with the environment in order to gain additional insight into the underlying mechanisms of sensory–motor coordination, and more generally the nature of perception. A locomotion model of a four-legged robot is used for the case studies in both simulation and real world. The locomotion model demonstrates how attractor states derived from body dynamics influence the sensory information, which can then be used for the recognition of stable behavioral patterns and of physical properties in the environment. A comprehensive analysis of behavior and sensory information leads to a deeper understanding of the underlying mechanisms by which body dynamics can be exploited for category learning of autonomous robotic systems. c © 2006 Elsevier B.V. Recognition of Crowd Behavior from Mobile Sensors with Pattern Analysis and Graph Clustering Methods

Mobile on-body sensing has distinct advantages for the analysis and understanding of crowd dynamics: sensing is not geographically restricted to a specific instrumented area, mobile phones offer on-body sensing and they are already deployed on a large scale, and the rich sets of sensors they contain allows one to characterize the behavior of users through pattern recognition techniques. In this...

Rigidity sensing and adaptation through regulation of integrin types

Tissue rigidity regulates processes in development, cancer and wound healing. However, how cells detect rigidity, and thereby modulate their behaviour, remains unknown. Here, we show that sensing and adaptation to matrix rigidity in breast myoepithelial cells is determined by the bond dynamics of different integrin types. Cell binding to fibronectin through either α5β1 integrins (constitutively...

Modeling and Simulation Research on Dynamics of Missiles with Deflectable Nose Control

The dynamic characteristics of deflectable nose missiles with rotary single-channel control were investigated in this paper. Firstly, the effective angle of attack, effective angle of sideslip and quasi-body coordinates were introduced based on the spin characteristics of the missile’s body. Secondly, considering the interaction between the missile’s nose and body, the rigid kinetic model of mi...

Molecular Dynamics Simulation of the Melting Process in Au15Ag40 Nanoalloys

In this study the operations of melting of Au15Ag40 nanoalloy have been studied using the molecular dynamic simulations through the Gupta multiparticle potential and the nonergodicity of simulations is eliminated by the multiple histogram method. The melting characteristics are determined by the analysis of variations in the potential energy. The calculations indicate that the melting of Au15Ag...

On Blackbox Backpropagation and Jacobian Sensing

From a small number of calls to a given “blackbox" on random input perturbations, we show how to efficiently recover its unknown Jacobian, or estimate the left action of its Jacobian on a given vector. Our methods are based on a novel combination of compressed sensing and graph coloring techniques, and provably exploit structural prior knowledge about the Jacobian such as sparsity and symmetry ...
